The cloud-based ERP system SAP Business ByDesign supports Renera AG’s expansion in Europe and the establishment of new business cases.
Renera AG: Pioneer in renewable energies and energy efficiency since 2006
In 2006, the Renera AG association (formerly Energie Zukunft Schweiz AG) was founded in Basel with the aim of promoting renewable energies and energy efficiency in Switzerland. The “100 Now” solar roof program was one of the association’s first projects. The goal: 100 solar systems on 100 private roofs. This ultimately resulted in over 1000 solar thermal systems. The project was awarded the Swiss Marketing Trophy 2009. A year later, the association opened its second office in Zurich. Business picked up more and more speed. In 2019, the association outsourced its operating business to a stock corporation. At the same time, the subsidiary Sunwin Energy Italia SRL was founded. It develops ground-mounted solar systems in Italy. Today, Renera AG employs around 150 people and has four subsidiaries in Europe. The consulting company supports energy suppliers, players in the real estate sector, authorities and private individuals in implementing their energy transition.
Goals on the way to the cloud
This project focused in particular on Europe-wide compliance and employee autonomy.
Scaling and internationalization
In view of its rapid growth and international expansion, Renera was looking for a powerful ERP solution that met Europe-wide compliance requirements and could be implemented quickly.
Rapid implementation of a mobile application for improved process flows
Renera wants to offer its employees a simple mobile application with which they can autonomously handle time recording, expense management and all approval processes.
Interfaces for seamless data transparency
Renera wanted interfaces between the ERP system and other solutions, such as the document management system, to ensure end-to-end data transparency.

Selection of the ERP system
Given the need for a scalable and internationally compatible ERP system, Renera quickly opted for SAP Business ByDesign, which fulfils Europe-wide compliance requirements.
Data cleansing and preparation
In preparation for the ERP implementation, a Renera employee cleansed hundreds of thousands of data records to create a clean database for the new system.
System customisation and integration
Renera customised its business processes to the standard functions of SAP Business ByDesign and integrated interfaces to existing systems such as document management.
Implementation and coaching
Supported by SAP partner all4cloud Switzerland, SAP Business ByDesign was successfully implemented and staff trained within three months.

Following the implementation of SAP Business ByDesign, all Renera locations communicate uniformly. The integrated data storage enables access to key financial figures at any time.
Efficiency in reporting
Thanks to intelligent functions such as drill-down, users can switch from a general data overview to detailed views, which significantly increases reporting efficiency.
Improved customer interaction through CRM
The integration of CRM and marketing functions in SAP Business ByDesign has created a standardized platform for all customer data. This enables personalized customer journeys and a comprehensive 360-degree view of customers, which increases the effectiveness of customer communication and support.
Faster administrative processes
We were able to significantly reduce the time spent on administrative tasks. We now handle expense recording, approval processes and time recording via intuitive apps, which saves a lot of time.
